Spring is springing…

We thought Mr. and Mrs. Gold Silkie were behaving a bit strangely, guarding the hedge. After some investigating, we discovered why. Mrs. Silkie has made herself a rather splendid and cosy nest. She also made it crystal clear that these particular eggs are NOT to go in hatching kits and that they are hers to keep. Who are we to argue with a determined broody chicken?! Once Mrs. Silkie has finished laying her clutch of eggs, she will begin to sit on them, only coming off for short periods to feed, drink and go to the toilet. After 21 days, her chicks will hatch.
